1.Clean and De-Wax:Prep.
Scrub the entire wooden frame with a mild degreaser or mineral spirits to remove decades of built-up furniture wax, oils, and dirt.
2.Light Surface Scuffing:Grit 150-220.
Lightly sand all exterior surfaces using medium-fine sandpaper to scuff the top clear coat, creating micro-grooves for the paint to grip without stripping the wood completely.
3.Apply Shellac-Based Primer:1 Coat.
Apply a coat of stain-blocking shellac primer to prevent natural wood tannins from bleeding through the red paint layer over time.
4.Apply Paint and Clear Topcoat:2 Coats.
Apply two thin, uniform coats of high-quality furniture paint (such as mineral, chalk, or acrylic enamel), allowing proper drying time between coats. Finish with a clear matte or satin wax/polyurethane coat for durability.
🤝 Decorating with a Partner
Decorating a shared living space is less about winning an interior design debate and more about finding creative balance. Design compromises like two-tone finishes or painted interiors allow both partners to see their style reflected in the home.
